The Sonoran desert is home to over 4,000 species of plants - nearly all of them prick, poke or prey on other species.

But these same plants offer life to the diverse species that rely on them for food, shelter and protection.  

Look for an abundance of blooms in orange, purple, red, and yellow as they blanket the desert floor. Beautiful Mexican gold poppies accent the  in Tonto National Forest near Saguaro Lake, 

Sonoran desert wildflowers tend to bloom when they want to bloom; but you're most likely to find fields of them between February and May in Arizona.
